HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Quack! Quack!

Happy Halloween. Sorry its been a while since we've refreshed this blog, but things have been pretty hectic around here lately... the most noteworthy aspect being Zoe's first illness: pneumonia and a double ear infection.

The bubbly disposition, now Zoe's quintessence, left her fledgling parents convinced she'd picked up a cold at daycare a couple weeks back. We considered a trip to the emergency room two Sundays ago, but Zoe's frequent smiles and lack of crying seemed to contradict her atypical preference to cling to us and a general lethargy. That decision, of course, made us feel like the worst parents ever once Dr. Turke (Zoe's pediatrician) said the words "pneumonia" and "double ear infection" on Monday afternoon. After the doctor's appointment, Sonja ran to CVS to pick up an antibiotic prescription. While in line, Zoe smiled and laughed with the woman behind them. When Sonja picked up the bubble gum-flavored amoxicillin, the woman asked increduously: "This child is sick?" Yep, she was. And still is, a little.

But after nearly two weeks of sleeping upright (mostly in her swing, but often on our chests... and when I say "our chests" I mean usually Sonja's chest), many battles to get the amoxicillin down her throat, several restless nights (again... Sonja) because she wasn't eating or sleeping very well, some weird shallow breathing that had us a little freaked out, and a few incidents of puking up mucus (the doctor said it was a good thing, but he didn't have to clean it up), she seems much, much better.

Of course we already learned we'll never know for sure with that perma-grin of hers.

That Zoe! She's a real tough cookie. No whining from her.

Love the duck suit. Think you should use it for her snowsuit.
