More cake than Sara Lee

We lived the life of clowns this weekend, packing up the car and driving from birthday party to birthday party. It was a good time.

Before we get into the specifics, here's a shot of the two birthday girls. Apparently, after 33 extra years of practice, Aunt Tephs is significantly better than Lily at eating birthday cake. (Although, it's all about perspective isn't it? Lily certainly drew much more applause for her efforts.)

First up, on Saturday, was a trip to Lily's first birthday extravaganza. Her parents (Dani and Bob) should consider writing a book on throwing first birthday parties... they did a great job. As is par for the course, Zoe started out a little shy. We spent some time coloring on a table in the driveway while most of the partygoers congregated on the deck.

She eventually warmed up and played some kiddie games. Here, Zoe and Momma are intently listening to the rules of one of the most creative party games we've encountered, Pin-the-Pacifier-on-Lily.

It's not nearly as cruel as the name implies. In fact, it was downright cute. Here's our hostess, Dani, taking Zoe through the steps:

Not to brag, but Zoe did finish in a two-way tie for first place. She's a freaking Pin-the-Pacifier-on-Lily natural.

After sneaking off with Daddy to exchange high fives and secretly mock her competition, it was on to Round 1 of birthday cake:

We hung out for several hours and had a very nice time. When Zoe started falling asleep on one of Lily's gifts, we knew it was time to head home.

We did, after all, have a big day planned on Sunday. The party at Aunt Tephs kicked off with a rousing game of Hide-N-Seek with Dziadzia:

After dinner, it was time for cake. Zoe enjoyed helping Busia place the candles:

And, of course, helping Aunt Tephs blow them out. (Gotta finish the job you start.)

Another very fun day ended with a horsey ride:

Zoe enjoyed the horsey ride very much, which means Busia can count on carrying Zoe around on her back for three days. She's headed to Bay City for a three-day, two-night sleepover (assuming Momma lets Busia and Dziadzia leave the house) next weekend.

A few days later, Zoe and Momma head to Newaygo for the four-day Labor Day weekend (while Dad stays home to celebrate his favorite holiday... football season!)

So many good times, and so many more on the horizon. What's Zoe gonna think the next time her parents want to spend a quiet weekend afternoon lounging on the couch?

That will happen again, right? Right?

Make sure you blog when you get the "quiet weekend on the couch"...we're still waiting. And APPLAUSE APPLAUSE for Aunt Tephs blowing out her candles.

Green must be the "IN" party color this year. Ages 1 to 34 were wearing it.

Zoe should be all partied out for a few months.

Congratulations to Zoe's dziadz for being able to squeeze between wall and chair for the hide and seek portion of the party. Even bigger congratulations if he got back up.

TO ANSWER CHRIS, THE DZIADZA GOT UP; THE BACK DIDN'T. BUT THAT WAS SECONDARY. HEARING MY GRANDDAUGHTER COUNT ALL THE WAY TO THUUURRRTEEN EVERY TIME WE HID WAS SPECIAL. AS SPECIAL AS HER HIDING IN THE PLACE THAT YOU JUST HID!! THANK GOD THERE WAS NO PIN THE WHOOPEE CUSHION ON DZIADZA'S NOSE. BUT AUNT TEPHS DID NOT EVEN LOOK LIKE SHE WAS 34, DID SHE?? SHE WAS AT LEAST SEVERAL DAYS SHY OF THAT OLD AGE NUMBER. NOW IF ONLY JASON WOULD TEACH ZOE HOW TO TAP DANCE. A GOOD TIRING WEEKEND FOR THE ANN ARBORITES!!

To the Dziadz:
Your sister lives on Crooked Lk Ln. Her bad back and weak knees have also played hide and seek.
