Winter weekend

For the first time this winter, Zoe was able to get outside and spend a considerable amount of time enjoying the snow (or "schneww," as she calls it). It took a while to get some white stuff to drop around here... then once it did, it remained bitterly cold.

Before we get to the description of the past weekend, let's first take you back to Dec. 30, 2005. Roughly 13 1/2 months ago:

The previous picture is Zoe taking her first ride on the sled that Aunt Steph bought her for Christmas. She loved it. So when the sun was shining and the wind was calm on Friday, I had to pull the sled back out. The next picture is the result:

She left that sucker in the dust as soon as I would stop long enough for her to jump off. See our deck in the background? That's where the ride started. For all of 10 yards, I heard "No ride, Dadda," at least 10 times. For the remainder of our time outside, she pulled the sled around in circles in the driveway while I stood and watched. She seemed to enjoy that, but it really wasn't much fun for me (and that's why I had a kid, damnit!).

Oh well.

On Saturday, Mom's friend Dani stopped by with her adorable daughter, Lily. Zoe and Lily became fast friends. It took Zoe a couple minutes to warm up, but eventually she was bringing toy after toy for Lily to play with. They posed for this photo:

Sonja and Dani tried, with no success, to get Zoe to smile for this picture. Despite her scowl, she really does love baby Lily. Since she first saw this picture she asks about LeeLee (as she calls her) about a million times a day and sits on the computer chair staring at the pictures of the two.

They're a couple of kids on the opposite ends of the growth charts. Our little squirt is nearly 22 months old and still wearing mainly 18-month-old clothes. Lily, on the other hand, is 6 months old and wearing 12-month-old clothes. But both, of course, are just perfect.

Later that night, Mom had a "Girls Night" with some friends to celebrate her upcoming birthday and Uncle Jerome (we decided against "Mr. Helminiak") stopped by to hang out with Dad and Zoe. I think Zoe has her first crush... she flirted with "Jome" all night.

On Sunday, more sunshine! That meant Zoe helping Daddy with some shoveling:

And then a short, winter walk:

Take care.

I can't believe she doesn't like the sled this year considering how she loved being pulled in it last year, even spinning around in the kitchen left her giggling. But, she sure looks cute in that snowsuit.
And little Lily is an absolute doll.

Thank you Sonja and Rich for our wonderful night on the town. I had so much fun and it was nice to be out with the girls.
Zoe and Lily are so cute together- hopefully they'll be lifelong friends and will have their own nights out (not until they are 30 though).
And a happy birthday to Sonja!

Love,
Dani
