FIRST FOOTBALL COOKOUT

Despite the sour faces, it was pretty sweet having my two girls at the football cookout Saturday morning. Hot dogs and beans for breakfast is an acquired taste, for sure, but typically not lip-pursing. Not sure what was going on here. Cute, though!

This was Zoe's first introduction to a decades-old family tradition. And it was nice to see the next generation of Section 6 dwellers hanging out together in the Pioneer High School parking lot. This is Zoe playing a little football with second cousins Emily and Zachary (and their dad, Rick):

Mostly, Zoe spent the morning pulling Dziadzia around by the finger:

They visited the high school tennis tournament being played nearby (clapping along with the girls' families after each point) and climbed some steps (over and over and over... which is the case with most things worth doing once).

Sonja and Zoe packed up and headed home before game time. Sonja because she'd rather have her fingernails pulled out one at a time than sit through a football game. Zoe because Daddy isn't quite ready to be a daddy during a U-M game. Selfish? Yep.

I've been thinking about when I'll take Zoe into the stadium since Emily and Zachary became wily veterans. And I do plan to get her hooked very young, for equally selfish reasons: I need somebody to sit with me into old age, because my lovely wife won't (unless the weather is nice and she can bring a book)!

Was Dziaz following telling Zoe to "pull my finger!!"???? I would have paid to see that.

Maybe the girls aren't quite ready for the UofM games, but they sure played the role at the cookout. Cute outfits. Even Sonja had an appropriate shirt on. I think Big Daddy should be very proud. Momma came through again!!!!!!

AND MY BRAVE LITTLE GIRL WAS DEALT A TERRIBLE HAND WITH HAVING TO PUT UP WITH HER PANTS ON BACKWARDS, NOT TO MENTION HER DZIADZA PULLING THEM UP ALMOST TO HER NECK SO THAT SHE COULD HURL HERSELF AROUND THE TAILGATE AREA IN HER USUAL BREAKNECK FRENZIED STYLE. IF ONLY THOSE PILOTS OVERHEAD HAD KNOWN THAT SOMEONE ON THE GROUND WAS WAVING GOODBYE TO THEM AND THROWING THEM KISSES EVERY TIME THEY FLEW BY. BUT TO WHOMEVER BROUGHT THE POPPYSEED BAGELS, THANK YOU. THE GRANDDAUGHTER LOVED THEM.
